All-Star Selection Process

E-mail Print PDF

How the Little League All-star Process Works

Every Little League is eligible to send three all-star teams from baseball and three all-star teams from softball into postseason play.  There’s officially a 9-10 year old all-star team (comprised of 9 & 10 year old players), an 10-11 year old all-star team (comprised of 10 & 11 year olds), and an official 11-12 year old all-star team (comprised of 11 & 12 year old players).  Only the 11-12 year old all-star teams have the chance to advance past the state level to regional and possibly to go all the way to Portland, OR for the Little League Softball World Series or to Williamsport, PA for the Baseball World Series.  The 9-10 & 10-11 year old teams only compete through District and State Championships.  Each team must carry a minimum of 12 players. As a result, each league sends between 36 and 42 players into all-star competition.  Is your child one of the 12 players in his or her age group that’s all-star material?  If so, be prepared.  It’s an awesome experience and one that you and your child will remember forever.  Oh yeah…one more thing.  Be prepared to turn over your original birth certificate along with three approved documents showing proof of residence within the Little League boundary in which your child has been playing.

These documents must be approved by the District Administrator prior to the start of all-star competition and kept by the manager in a binder throughout the all-star season.  The manager must have this information with him at all games.  If you can’t produce these documents then the dreams of your Little Leaguer to play in all-stars will go up in smoke.  In other words, don’t play in a league in which you live outside the boundary and don’t register for a division for which you cannot produce the proper documents and birth certificate…it will catch up with you at all-star time.

Whether you know it or not, the “2010 Road to All-Stars” has either started or is about to start for your league, so find out how your league handles all-stars now!  Teams will be selected on June 23, 2010 and announced on June 25, 2008 (leagues are not allowed to post, announce or practice with all-star players before June 15th), which officially marks the beginning of the “Road to All- Stars.”  World-wide all-star games start on June 26 and District, Sectional, Division and Regional tournaments must be completed by August 10th, so that all Regional Champions can make the last leg of the long trip to Williamsport.  The 2010 Little League World Series is August 12-18.

*Please note that three or more Las Vegas Little League board members (to include the president and the player agent) must be present to facilitate the voting/meeting.  Said board members will not participate in the voting but will supply lists of eligible players and answer any questions or settle any disagreements at the time of voting.  All voting will be taken and counted at the time of the meeting and all voting is final.  Votes will be collected and counted by board members present. Only regular season managers will be allowed at the meeting as they are the only eligible voters.  We ask that individual results not be disucussed out of respect to the players and their feelings.  Individual results have no bearing (aside from causing friction if discussed) as the TEAMS will be announced ALPHABETICALLY at the conclusion of each respective championship game.

Please note that two clarification have been made to the 2010 Tournament Rules and Guidelines for softball.

The clarifications are:

  • Rule6.09 - The batter becoming a runner on a dropped third strike will apply for the 10-11 year old tournament in softball
  • Rule 7.08 (a)(5) - The base runner's ability to leave the base when the ball is released by the pitcher will apply for the 10-11 year old tournament in softball.

Note: These rules will not apply for the 9-10 tournament division of softball.
